My dear Mrs Eddy

I don’t As Written: dont know but you think strange I did not acknowledge the receipt of your picture you so kindly sent (of which I am very proud to have in my possession), and for your kindness accept many thanks, but for almost too many reasons to explain on paper have put it off from day to day. The first and greatest of all and which lies nearest my heart, was trying to induce Dr Dunlap to consent to go to you for thorough instruction so that he can come back and be our Head. I wrote and asked him after I receivedAs Written:recd your last letter if he would go if you would make it an object. He said he had been told you were very jealous of the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. and thought you would not be willing if you knew he wanted to come back here & found a Pacific collegeAs Written:collage.

I told him I knew better, that I thought and knew almost passively that you were in accord with our wishes in that respect as you had invited me to go with the intention of my coming back and doing just what I want him to do, lecture and teach and heal. beside I said are we not teaching students everydayAs Written:every day, that they may go out into the world and preech the truth to all nationsMatt 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt 28:19 ¶Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matt 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. . I can assure you he is the only one among all I have met that I feel would be just the one, and just the right material as he is a very pure minded man and wants to make it his life work. He is a man about forty I should think, a fine looking man, rather less than the ordinary height I think, but not at all diminutive, of medium build and one that will impress you at once of his worthiness, and one I am sure you will esteem highly I reckon him as one of our choice friends, and he so long, hungers & thirsts for the TruthMatt 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. that I love to tell all I know of it and am only sorry I can’t As Written: cant stand in your stead. Had I no husband home would have no charm for me and would not keep me long, untie I sought you for a perfect knowledge of metaphysics, and Dr Dunlap and I have talked so much of you, and what we would like to do, were we situated so as to do the thing nearest our heart. He told me he had been unfortunate some way and had not the Means to go to you, but that I had inspired him with a great desire to go, and I thought I would write you to know, on what terms you can receive him, as I have his promise to go if it is a possible thing to satisfy your demands. Could he earn anything while there to help defray his expenses. He of course can get means to take him but he will have to live while there. Now if you will let me know or you can write to him, and if, it is possible to meet the demands, I think you can expect him to join your next class. Please let me know when the next commences. How I wish I was a man, I'd never leave a stone unturned until I had instruction in every branch. I wish more of your sermons could be printed in the Journal, as anything coming from you seems like drop of gold to us who have learned to love you for Truths sake, What a pity we are so far removed from you how are they blessed who have the privilege As Written: priveledge of listening to your teachings in class and Sabbath day. My health has not been very good and I have always felt afraid to take such a long trip for fear something might happen me away from home and it is not at all pleasant to be sick away from home then I could not be gone more than six months at most, but maybe it is alrightAs Written:all right. If the Dr goes I shall feel the cause has a good representative in him, and I want a church, where we of the faith can meet and worship in our own way.

I wish you might take the trip this summer and visit our coast I know you would be delighted. I know a person could become independent As Written: indepent financially, here, the right one like yourself. Let me extend an invitation to come as our guest for any length of time. Can’t As Written: Cant you leave someoneAs Written:some one there, in charge for six months. I'll be your servant, and all in my power done to make your stay a success in every way

There are a great many first class people here that are just waiting for the right one to call them together & Mrs. Eddy's name is a household word with those of us that know anything of it.

If it was a possible thing I know you would come, if for knew what a harvest there is here waiting, lying dormant. Could you not come the 1st of July and remain about four months, to lecture and give us a little help. You shall be to no expense while you are at Vallejo. Our means are limited as my husband is under a salary, ten months in the year, and as the wife of a Pedagogue, I am necessarily limited financially otherwise I’d go to you.

Please let me know what you think of the proposition at your earliest convenience

I will send my Photo in return by Dr D. but will have some fresh ones taken, that is if he goes.

Yours in Truth & Love,
Frances J. Babcock
