Correcting false impressions, when the author is unknown is a difficult task; attempting it in writing this letter we run the risk of offending without intention, but my confidence in you, a Christian Scientist; inspired with the hope of doing good, urges the necessity of speaking; yet in the spirit of Love and Truth. I write in reference to a startling statement by Mrs Eddy shortly after your last visit to this CityEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts. The statement. in substance. was; that I said to you,- "When I came here I found Mrs Eddy sick, that I and Mr Frye set up at night, or nights, and treated her." Now my friend, had I spoken thus I should have uttered a deliberate falsehood. I did not find Mrs Eddy sick, or suffering from sickness. Neither did Mr Frye or I, sit up nights and treat her, or apply our thoughts to her; and no words passed between us upon the subject of sickness. As a Christian Scientist, knowing Animal Magnetism as I do,- that I alone must reap the penalty, or results, would prevent me speaking thus.

Having in view the subtil action of mortal mind and its ability to produce impressions, the very opposite of the true meaning of the words spoken; I can account for the probability of your misinterpretation of the statement I did make. If you recall my words, you will remember, they were, in effect, that "I was aiding in the defense against malicious directed mind, conspiring against our College, students and Teacher."

This I was doing especially, just as you, and all faithful ScientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists are doing on general principles, every day,- destroying malicious and ignorant mortal mind, and trying to build up Christian character from a spiritual, not a personal basis. I trust this will make clear, what the intention and meaning of my conversation was. My mistake was in speaking at all; yet the mistake of the head, unlike that of the heart, has not removed Mrs Eddy's confidence in our continued efforts to follow God's direction. We trust also to thus retain the confidence of all who do the will of the Father; and that the errors of the head shall never dampen our fidelity to Christian Science

Sincerely Yours in Christ.
S. J Sawyer.
