Dear Sir:
In your sermon, delivered Mar. 15, 1885, in the Park Ave. Methodist EpiscopalAs Written:M. E. Church of this city, the following statement was made by you, viz. - "Now I will show you that her teachings advocate free-love" representing our Leader and Teacher, and, by implication, her adherents and followers, as advocating this pernicious doctrine.
That the said statement is a libel upon her teachings, practice and character, a perusal of her written works, "Science & Health"Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, will show: - See VolumeAs Written:Vol. 2nd, chapter on "Marriage."
Now, Sir, in the interest of Truth, and of a lady, who has never, by any statement or act of her own, been placed in an unmerited and false position before the public, we hope you will see this mistake corrected, and we earnestly request you to withdraw the said statement as publicly as it was given. We ask this as a simple act of justice, believing the pulpit ever ready to concern in such a motive.

Dear Mrs. Eddy,
The foregoing is a copy, verbatim, of a letter sent to the Rev. S. M. Davis. We have heard nothing from him in reply, and, so far as we have ascertained, he has done nothing to correct the statement he made. He is now in the country on account of his health; I heard that he attended the faith cure meetings but without benefit.
