Your very kind letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. was received on Monday afternoon -(the 2nd instantAs Written:inst) but I am sorry to be obliged to answer that I could not get away from my congregation till the close of the year. They would consider it a breach of contract so I will have to stay at least two months longer. How I long to know the Truth of Christian Healing, but I must be patient. My wife when I wrote to you last seemed perfectly willing for me to go at least in January but now is really more prejudiced than ever, and she will not consent even to be treated. She will not read the booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy nor listen to anything. She is afraid that the step would prove a failure. I have more faith than that in God. You see my dilemma. If I knew my duty in the matter I would do it regardless of consequences. Individually I would not hesitate an hour. I could not ask more than you have so liberally offered, but my duty to my wife places me in a strait betwixt two. If you can counsel me out of your rich experienceAs Written:'xpirience and large understanding I shall appreciate it very much. My wife knows my feelings as I have expressed As Written: xpressed them here, and I pray God she may be guided to the true light. I cannot allow anyoneAs Written:any one, to interfere with my conscientious convictions, yet I owe her all the respect I have provided in the right of what she thinks to be true. On some points she is all right e.g. The Atonement. We reformers advocate no theory on this subject simply stating that Atonement has been made, and there is no doubt but that you are right. Your whole statement of Christianity makes me love Jesus a thousandfoldAs Written:thousand-fold more than I ever could have loved him believing in the inconsistency of a "vicarious sacrifice" of Himself for the sins of impious believers in creeds and isms.

I hope still to hear from you and I promise you I shall continue to investigate and hope that very soon I can show As Written: shew you how much I want to do to help you sound out the glorious Truth. I am now like Paul desiring to go to Rome.Rom 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Rom 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. Rom 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Rom 1:10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. Rom 1:11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; Rom 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Rom 1:13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. The infinite FatherEditorial Note: God will open the way. His will must be done.

Do not forget me. I shall always be grateful for your kindness and trust Him who knoweth all things to guide us into greater Light on this point.

Hoping the richest blessings of the Eternal Love, Truth and Life may be reflected in your work I am with much regret and many thanks.

Your Brother in Christ.
