I shall be unable to avail myself of your kind offer to teach me gratuitously the Collegiate & Normal Courses–
First, because as a bargain, I cannot consent to assume the role of semi-detective: for this is in law, conspiracy:- punishable with heavy fine & detention. If I had gone through those Courses & you were then to ask me as a friend: I could then prove a basis for friendly action, which would render nugatory all charges of "particeps criminis"––
Second– My refusal to sell or communicate any knowledge to your rivals, lest it might be applied injuriously to you, places me financially under such a strain, it would be very detrimental to close or lose As Written: loose my practice during that time―
