Your esteemed favorEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. of the 19th instantAs Written:inst is at hand with PoemEditorial Note: This is likely a reference to “Isle of Wight,” a poem written by Mary Baker Eddy after receiving a painting of the Isle by Bradford Sherman. The poem was published in the August 1884 issue of The Christian Science Journal and printed, slightly revised, on pages 392 -393 of Eddy’s book, Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896. enclosed. Which I highly appreciate, and it more than repays any feeble attempt of mine in any direction, that you are pleased with the painting or that it gives you an occasional pleasant thought amidst your many cares and perplexities would give me abundant satisfaction.
I try to realize your position in the great done and still doing for the benefit of mankind.
And personally how much I have to be thankful for through your instrumentality more than I can ever repay. and then to see the envy selfishness and pure cussedness manifested by many to rob you of your just credit and reward.
It makes me indignant. But I have the satisfaction That truth is mighty and will prevail. You will have my support and sympathy. Although feeble it may be, through any storms of error that may assail you.
Mrs Sherman and Miss Platt wish to be remembered with love.
Enclosed I hand you one DollarEditorial Note: $1.00 in 1884 is the equivalent of $27.69 in 2017. for the Journal. Addressed to
