Dear Madame:

In the absence of Mrs. Phelon from the city, I take the liberty of acknowledging the receipt of letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. and parcel from you. as she will do later. I would like to say also, a word for myself. I notice in the June C. S. Journal, that "Bricks" for the new church are in orderEditorial Note: An article by Sarah H. Crosse on page 69 of the June 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal invites readers to give money for individual bricks to be incorporated into a proposed church building for the Church of Christ, Scientist., I inclose one. It is a simple token of my interest in the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science.. Of you and your mighty work there can be but one true saying, namely: "It is of God."Acts 5:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

All the holy ones, who in past ages have toiled and suffered to uplift the souls of men, and cause the light to shine upon earth, have ever found blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened heartsMatt 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. , Be not discouraged, Oh, shining one! that evil recoils from you and chooses to be evil still. Is it not so written? The coming ages will fairly judge your record.

Yet, you have the comfort of knowing there are those ready and willing to show that "greater love" for thee, that will suffer the torture or death itself for thy sakeJohn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. , and in defense of the truth whose expounder you are.

If I may not serve at the altar, I, at least, may worship in the outer court of the temple

Sincerely As Written: Sincerly your admirer
