My beloved Teacher

I received your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. Saturday, and if a bomb-shell had fallen in the midst it seems to me that I could not have been more astonished. I could not see any possible chance of obeying your very earnest requestEditorial Note: The letter that Sargent likely received was one Eddy sent to a number of her students, asking them to establish “Institutes.” Institutes were established in various cities at this time for the purpose of teaching Christian Science by some of Mary Baker Eddy’s students. They were advertised in The Christian Science Journal., for I did not think that my husband would ever give his consent to have me leave our home, and go away to a large city. I did not dare to broach the subject to him that day for fear he would object, and I felt that I must go whether he said yes or no. I know that you are our "Teacher sent from God" and I must obey even if it costs me all I have on earth. I must please God first, and then I shall have confidence towards HimII Cor 3:4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: . I did not think I should be put to the test so soon for I do not feel that I have grown to a fitness for such a trust, but you know best, and I want to do just right that is what I am working for Well Sunday morning I happened to turn to the fifth chapter of Luke and when I read the fourth & fifth verses they seemed to have a new meaning, and to just apply to my case exactly "Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught," and then the answerLuke 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. . My dear Teacher before I hardly knew what I was saying I found myself telling my husband just what you wished me to do, and to my great amazement he never had one word of objection to offer but acquiesced to the proposition as kindly as if I had asked for some trifle. Do you wonder that after such a demonstration of God, Good that I felt inspired to work for our causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., but where to go I do not know, and dear You must decide for me just when to go and what to do first after I get there. dear little "Mother in Israel" do not send your child away from home, husband and friends without telling her what to do. I suppose it will be necessary for me to get a state charter; will it not? Do you want me to go alone or will you select someoneAs Written:some one to go with me? shall I take a furnished house in the best part of the city? please don't laugh at these questions You must remember that although my husband is willing for me to go yet he says he will not go with me so I shall have no man to do any business for me. It look as if it was an impossibility, but God can do any thingMatt 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. and if I sacrifice all here for this cause of Truth surely I shall not have trusted in vain, I cannotAs Written:can not understand why you should choose me, it seems as if it would have been better to send someoneAs Written:some one who had a husband to go, and work with them, but you know best dear and I will go whereverAs Written:where ever you think best, and trust God. I do not care how hard the field of labor if you think the understanding I have will be able to keep me honest to Truth. I feel that you are better able to judge for me and I leave it with you. I shall await your reply with (in belief) an anxious heart
