My dearest Teacher,

I can only just take time to wish you a very Happy New Year, May the year 1886, be the happiest of your life, and may many (if not all) your hopes for the cause of TruthEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. be realized, I know that nothing else could contribute so much to your peace of mind, It seems an age since I have had a letter from you, but I do not wonder - you have so many to think of. I suppose you have heard from Mr, Hammond, and know where he is and what is he doing, Grand RapidsEditorial Note: Grand Rapids, Michigan is a good field and was fully ripe for someoneAs Written:some one on account of some cures of mine there, The people thought them wonderful, Then a student of mine went there and was very successful in many cases, though she was there only three weeks, so by the time Mr, H– reached there everyoneAs Written:every one was ready to accept the scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science as the way of being cured, of course the interest created there got abroad, and the enemy were preparing to march on - & then it was that I saw something must be done immediately to save the place, and the CauseEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. from being dragged in the mire, Mr. H- went and I hear is doing nobly, There are several other places in the West where one going recommended by me would be well received, I introduced him to several of the finest families in the place, and have a great many warm friends there, Somehow Am fortunate in my friends, and I certainly am in my Teacher, Now I did not intend to write so much when I began but I never know when to stop, Oh! I have so much to say to you. I wonder when I ever shall have an opportunity of seeing you again.
