Your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. duly receivedAs Written:rec'd. Never in my life, except once before did I receive such a crushing blow, I was like one stunned for hours after reading it. My office full of people and I not fit to see them or do anythingAs Written:any thing for them, How I got through the day God alone knows, but I did somehow. I asked myself continually will these persecutions ever end? And something said never, so long as you are working for Truth. You tell me I needn'tAs Written:need'nt take pains to refute those dreadful charges about my practice, so I will not, they are beneath my notice.

I not only profess to teach Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. but I teach it in its purity so far as I go, and I intend to keep on, The error is propagating As Written: propigating so fearfully, people must be taught for self protection, and no one will or can prevent my working according to my understanding, and firm convictions of what is right, I fear no one in the flesh, either man or woman. My path is beset by snares, spies, enemies, am constantly hearing the most dreadful things about my Teacher, but so far, they have been dismissed from my mind instantly, and so long as I have confidence in the purity of her motives, and purposes I shall stand by her, and defend her. I can think of nothing more dreadful, than that the time should ever come when that confidence would be destroyedAs Written:distroyed. As far as studying Theology is concernedAs Written:conserned, I ask nothing of you that I'm not willing to pay for, so far as money, and gratitude, can pay, for I am very well aware that the glorious Truth, and Light you give your Students, is priceless, and cannot be paid for in this world's As Written: worlds goods.

As to joining the Church, it is immaterial to me whether I ever do or not, those who do belong, many of them are not doing half what I am doing, notwithstanding their superior advantages, and having all the circumstances, and conditions in their favor. Those that started out failed, and were glad to sneak back to BostonEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts, If this is the Church of Christ, it will be the refuge of sinners, there will be a voice to bid them "Come," a Hand to help them up to a higher and better life, for Christ said, "whosever cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out,"John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. If this Christ spirit is lacking, then it will go down, for it is built upon sandMatt 7:24 ¶Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? If I was slumbering, your letter has thoroughly awakened me, and, I thank you for this fresh manifestation of your Love I trust and pray that nothing may ever break up our pleasant relations, or prevent our cooperating in this grand and glorious work.
