My dear Teacher,

I write to tell you that I have "Taken up the cross,"Matt 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me is not worthy of me. Matt 16:24 ¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Mark 8:34 ¶And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23 ¶And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. I have commenced to teach.

I never did anythingAs Written:any thing more reluctantly, for it seemed such a solemn task, but I rejoice to tell your that I have succeeded beyond my expectations, have surprised myself. The spirit my students manifest, together with what they have done at the end of seven lessons prove that I have imparted the spirit, as well as letter. They will go to you sometime As Written: some time for a more advanced course. I have become so disgusted with the teaching of some, that I plainly saw my duty and intend to keep on now, though every obstacle has been throw in way, but God will help and in this, as He has in other tasks undertaken for His glory. And who I am teaching had written to Arens, and talked with Dr Charles here about studying, I exposed both to him, and he is more than glad I did, but they have tried to kill me for doing it but they can't do it.

I am going to have a Teachers card in the J. C. S. and do you think I had better say "The best of references required as to Christian character? If you do please say so to Col - I have sent the adAs Written:add, to him
