I write you, to inform you why I am not attending lectures.

Your telegram to meEditorial Note: This telegram is not extant. was used to my hurt by an unprincipled man or men- who informed my wife that a handsome young lady had telegraphed me from BostonEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts to meet her & I had quit the country & gone off with her, my wife says that she told them where I was going & that I sat up all night at home & she with me most of the time arranging for me to go- But they over persuaded her that I had gone & taken what money she had given to me with me. This of course caused her to swear out a warrant for my arrest but as soon as she learned that I really was at your college, the suit was withdrawn at once– All I am sorry for is that I was detained one day (Friday) from going back, but perhaps it is all for the best God knows what is best for us– The church stands by me & now so does my wife– I have preached two sermons upon your work & mean to publish your work from pulpit to pulpit wherever I may in the providence of God be called to labor-

When will your next session begin? And will you permit me to attend? I am really hungering for your instructions– You opened up a new field to me in theology & I dare not doubt but what you have the true idea of God's Word- Your bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy is a treasure to me, yet it is but a small taper to the sun when compared with your lectures.

Wishing you Godspeed & hoping to hear from you–

I remain yours in Christ
W. Hammond
