I have desired to write you but error tries to confuse me when I attempt to do so, and I fear I have allowed it to rule me in this respect.
Then too I am not through spreading "sackclothAs Written:sack-cloth and ashes" and have not felt able to write a letter that would not be to you a belief of burden. But I feel greatly encouraged and strengthened for the battle. I am reminded that I have not written you about the new bookEditorial Note: This is a reference to the fiftieth edition of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy..
Some of it especially the chapters on "Practice" and "teaching" I have studied
I have not read the book all through in course, though there is perhaps but little of it that I have not read.
We have laid aside the former editions and use only the new. In our students meetings we read Science & Health and make that the basis of all that w e talk. In this way we have studied from the first pretty nearly through "Christian Science and Spiritualism"
At our public As Written: bublic meetings we find it necessary to prove the facts from a Bible standpoint. We find our questions regarding Science all answered in the new book. We have been very greatly benefited from the chapters first mentioned. I had felt that I could As Written: coud not go on teaching until Mrs. Eddy answered some questions for me. But I found them all answered in the new book. If we do not rightly appreciate the precious gift, it is only because we do not know how. We think nothing — we know that nothing too good can be said of this book.
All of the family have read the book more than I. My father is a great student of Science & Health and so also is my mother.
And they of course use the new book. I had one of the latest of the old editions and felt that I desired to keep it. But I do not know for what purpose I am keeping it. For I never read it and it seems to belong to a step left behind.
No one could read this book with any thought of charity and not know that Christian Science is Christianity.
